Public Services Specialist
Piedmont College's Arrendale Library needs a energetic, creative staff member to work in the role of Public Services Specialist. The Public Services Specialist supervises weekend shifts at the Arrendale Library in Demorest: 11 AM–5 PM on Saturdays, and 2 PM–10 PM on Sundays. This part-time position (14-20 hours) reports to the Dean of Libraries & College Librarian and is available beginning February 1, 2014. Shift supervision includes reference and public access computer assistance and supervision of student workers and circulation services.
The Public Services Specialist ...
- Opens and closes the Library on Saturdays & Sundays and maintains a secure environment in the building during assigned shifts;
- Provides reference and research assistance and assists users with public-access computers;
- Supervises and trains student workers assigned to weekend shifts;
- Provides supervision and service at the circulation desk;
- Learns and applies Library policies and procedures;
- May receive other duties as assigned.
Skills, Abilities, Experience & Credentials: Bachelor's degree; two years experience working in a library; customer-service experience; team-spirit, with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain appropriate and effective collegial relationships with library staff, library users, and the College community; excellent computer and information technology skills; detail-oriented and flexible; excellent written and oral communications skills.
Environment: Piedmont College was founded in 1897 and is a private, coeducational college affiliated with the Congregational tradition. Our enrollment consists of over 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students. Students attend at the main campus at Demorest, Georgia, and at our branch campus at Athens, Georgia. A significant part of our student body participates in our remote outreach programs throughout north Georgia.
The Libraries of Piedmont College hold approximately 95,000 physical volumes and provide a very broad and rich array of online research resources. We use the SirsiDynix Symphony integrated library system, LibGuides/LibAnswers, and social media to support our outreach. We are a member of the GALILEO project and the GPALS consortium.
